An early start this day. After an early breakfast, we check out from our hotel and leave for our orientation tour of New Delhi also known as Lutyen’s Delhi, named after the famous British architect Edwin Lutyens. The capital of India is a reflection of the old and new of India, a blend of Mughal India, Hindu India, British India and modern independent India. We drive past the famous India Gate, the Houses of Parliament, and Connaught Place. Our first stop is at the Birla House (closed on Monday & 30th Jan), which was the former residence of Mahatma Gandhi. On January 30, 1948, Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated here. The house was given by Birla family one of the famous Industrial group in India. The house has now been converted into a museum which houses some of the rarest collection of photographs and history of Mahatma Gandhi. After a quick lunch we are transferred to Railway Station in time to board our train to Kota. The train offers airline style seating.
(Food for purchase on Board Train)
On arrival in Kota, we are met by our local host and are transferred to our Hotel, Umed Bhawan Palace.
After breakfast, we head west on minor roads passing plowed fields and small villages towards Chittaurgarh. On hitting the highway or the town limits of Chittaurgarh, we drive the final distance up to Chittaurgarh, which is India's largest fort and the ultimate symbol of Rajput chivalry and pride. The pride and glory of Rajasthan echoes with the tales of romance and valor unique to the Rajput tradition, the town boasts ruined citadel, where the royal past lives in its imposing forts, graceful palaces and spectacular chhatris. There is the opportunity to visit Chittaurgarh fort, Vijay stambh, (Victory Tower) Kirti stambh, (Tower of Fame) Rana Kumbha's Palace, and Padmini's Palace.
Later we drive down to Hotel Pratap Palace for lunch. After lunch we drive down to the Old Highway towards Udaipur to our next stop from where we can further pedal down to Udaipur approx 30 KMS.
On arrival in Udaipur, we check in our hotel.
We drive out of town to commence cycling on a quiet road – a little climbing through pleasant rural countryside with increasing views. On arrival at Kumbhalgarh, we check in and enjoy our lunch. After lunch we visit impressive Kumbhalgarh Fort. Built by Rana Kumbha in mid-15th century, Kumbhalgarh is the second most important bastion of Mewar, after Chittaurgarh and covering an area of 12 sq km.
In the morning after breakfast we drive to Udaipur. Today we take city tour of Udaipur, visiting the City Palace, Saheliyon Ki Bari and the folklore museum where we can see a presentation of the string puppet show typical to this area.
